The following Solar Prominence Images are submitted by Californian amateur Jim Ferreira. Jim captured these image sequences in February and March with his DMK 21AU04.AS astronomy cameraera. Tech details are available in his e-mail quoted below.
[...] both showing considerable change in structure over a relatively short period of time. Video AVIs were shot with the DMK 21AU04.AS using a Lunt LS50F Hydrogen-Alpha filter on a 4 inch ED refractor, from my suburban backyard in Livermore, California. The Lunt H-alpha filter is only 50mm aperture, so the amount of light reaching the camera sensor, at this magnification, is quite low. The small pixels and good sensitivity of the DMK 21AU04.AS allows me to work with sufficient shutter speed / frame rate to record faint, tenuous features near the resolving limit of the 50mm aperture. An amazing amount of fine structure can indeed be recorded with my modest equipment - most rewarding.
Thank you Jim! These are wonderful pictures!
